Willy Wonka, Jr. at the Erie Playhouse - A scrumdidilyumptious musical treat!
The Erie Playhouse Youtheatre is thrilled to announce the Erie Premiere of Willy Wonka, Jr. a cativiating new stage musical.
This delicious story is adapted from the 1971 film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which starred Gene Wilder in the title role. The Wonka legacy, including Johnny depp’s recent turn as Willy Wonka in the 2005 remake of the film started with Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." It is guaranteed to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth.
Favorite songs and characters from the classic movie abound. Heading the cast as Willy Wonka, the world-famous candy man, is Eddie Baxter. Frank Smrcka, who plays the impoverished Charlie Bucket, is joined by Brennan Staaf (Augustus Gloop), Karley Bender (Veruca Salt), Sara Niland (Violet Beaugarde) and Tommy Murabito (Mike Teavee) as the golden ticket holders, all vying to be selected as the heir to the chocolate factory. Matthew Grisier brings the loveable Grandpa Joe to life, and the rest of the cast is completed with numerous talented performers including the not-to-be missed Oompa-Loompas.
Willy Wonka, Jr. is under the direction of Playhouse executive director, Almitra Clerkin. Eric Smrcka is handling the vocal direction, with Mary Rose Ferrara designing the enchanting costumes and Joe Hassler creating sets and lights.
Willy Wonka, Jr. is a joy from beginning to end – it’s a show that overflows with music, comedy and heart.
