Be seduced by The Graduate at the Erie Playhouse
The Graduate, a novel turned award-winning 1960’s movie, turned Broadway hit play is brought vividly to life on stage at the Erie Playhouse. The novel by Charles Webb was a 60’s cult classic; the film was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won the Golden Globe and BAFTA for best picture. It made a star out of Dustin Hoffman and the acclaimed stage version of this comical, iconic slice of American pop culture has seduced audiences from London’s West End to Broadway.
It’s California in the 1960’s and Benjamin (played by newcomer Nick Giles) returns home from college with a diploma, multiple awards and an uncertain future. His parents, Mr. & Mrs. Braddock (Don E. Kirsch and Elizabeth Crandell) are thrilled with their son’s accomplishments. His dad’s best friend, Mr. Robinson (Ed Moss), suggests that Ben seize every opportunity that comes his way – and he does – specifically, Mrs. Robinson (Susan Lechner). Complications arise when Ben falls in love with the Robinson’s daughter, Elaine (Amanda Hurd). Other cast members include Scott Schillinger and Jennifer Pierce.
The Graduate is under the capable direction of Charles Corritore. Joe Hassler creates the multi-function al sets and lighting design while Mary Rose Ferrara brings the 60’s style to life in her costume creations.
