Prelude to a Kiss – a bewitching romantic fantasy at the Erie Playhouse
“For better or for worse” takes on a whole new meaning in the next offering at the Erie Playhouse, as _Prelude to a Kiss _opens.
_Prelude to a Kiss _is a romantic fairy-tale filled with enduring charm and a few twists. The play originally premiered on Broadway in the late 80’s and was recently revived in a critically acclaimed production at the Roundabout Theatre. Between the two Broadway turns, a movie with Alec Baldwin and Meg Ryan captured the public’s heart.
As the story goes – a party kicks off a love affair between ready-for-love Peter (Matt Fuchs) and the quirky insomniac Rita (Renee Bennett). After a few months of passionate romance the two make plans to marry. Enter a mysterious Old Man (Al Braun) who wanders into the wedding and gently kisses the bride. In that moment, hopes, fears and dreams are realized, and Peter suddenly finds himself on the honeymoon with a Rita he no longer recognizes.
Others in the cast include June Braun and Mike Meyers as Rita’s parents, with Juanita Kleckner and Dave Bello as Rita’s aunt and uncle. Alex Bolla portrays the “best man” with Shantel Kay stepping into the role of the Old Man’s daughter. Cheryl Jong, Bev Walz and Ron Domkowski complete the ensemble.
Prelude to a Kiss is under the direction of Sue Lechner with Mary Rose Ferrara handling wardrobe and costume design. Joe Hassler will create the set and lights.
If you think you’re too old for fairy tales – think again! Prelude to a Kiss will provide theatregoers with romance, laughter and perhaps a little catch in the throat.
