Kate Neubert-Lechner, Executive Director

Kate Neubert-Lechner, Executive Director, previous Youtheatre/Education Director and long-time Erie performer, is the creator/director of PLAYtime, the Playhouse’s new Pre-K arts and literacy initiative designed to use children’s creative spirit to foster their development as readers and lovers of books. In addition to PLAYtime, Kate works with groups at the Barber National Institute, Sarah Reed Children’s Center, the Achievement Center, Perseus House, and others to allow underserved youths the opportunities to thrive, learn, and grow in the arts. Prior to relocating to Erie in 2013, she was a freelance director/instructor at various venues in Pittsburgh including the Pittsburgh Youth Ballet, South Park Theatre, Little Lake Theatre, and Gymboree Play & Music. Before settling in Pittsburgh, Kate worked for Tony Bennett & his son/manager Danny at RPM Productions in New York City, where she also performed in various cabaret theatres. Kate has her BA in Theatre/Communication Arts from Gannon University and has also received training as a Musical Theatre Major at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music & Interlochen Arts Camps. As a performer, favorite roles include Sheila in A Chorus Line (CCM), Barbie/Sofia/Gretchen/Rosalinda/Kitty in Five Course Love, Sylvia in Sylvia (both at Little Lake), Mary Poppins, Velma Kelly in Chicago, Dot/Marie in Sunday in the Park with George and Christine Colgate in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels all the at Erie Playhouse. Kate has also performed as a guest soloist with the Cincinnati Pops, the Erie Philharmonic, & the Greensburg Symphony. As a director, favorites include Spring Awakening, The Great Gatsby and Peter and the Starcatcher for the Playhouse Mainstage, The Snow Queen and Freckleface Strawberry for the Youtheatre, …and a Nightingale Sang and Pinkalicious for Little Lake. She is the proud mother of two imaginative girls, Laila and Mira.
