When cryptologist Sophie Neveu arrives at the scene she alerts Robert that, not only is he being asked to solve a crime, he is also the prime suspect. Soon they are on a race against time to clear Robert’s name and decipher a labyrinthine code before a shocking historical secret is lost forever.
Roles in THE DA VINCI CODE:
Ages listed below are from character descriptions in the script and serve as guides only. Roles will be cast according to the director’s vision for the production.
ROBERT LANGDON (early 40s) – Harvard symbologist, he is the story’s reluctant hero. Tweedy and intellectual, he is pulled into the center of a vast web of conspiracy and murder and must use his formidable intellect – rather than his brawn – to solve the mystery.
SOPHIE NEVEU (30) – A cryptologist with the French Judicial Police. Compassionate and intelligent, she was raised by her grandfather after her family died in a car accident.
SIR LEIGH TEABING (60s+) – An eccentric Englishman, knight, Royal Historian, and extremely wealthy man. He uses a walking stick and is obsessed with The Holy Grail and the Truth he believes lies within it. This obsession leads him to murder via his alter ego, the Teacher.
SILAS (late 20s-30s) – A monk of Opus Dei, and the murderer of Jacques Saunière. Silas is motivated by the rejection and horror he has faced since he was young. He is obsessed with self-punishment and is the pawn of the Teacher. NOTE: Role will be shirtless on stage. Trigger/trauma warning: The role of Silas self-punishes during the play, including whipping himself with a knotted rope-tie.
JACQUES SAUNIÈRE (60s+) – The grandfather of Sophie and curator at the Louvre. His murder sets off the chain of events. His scholarly passions of Leonardo Da Vinci, goddess iconography, and puzzles are what guide Sophie and Langdon to solve the mystery.
RÉMY/OFFICER/PHILIP (late 20s-30s) – Rémy is the house servant of Teabing. He is a mercenary who gets involved in the search for the Grail for the money. Philip is Sophie’s brother who secretly cares for the Rosslyn Chapel in Edinburgh. Doubles as an Officer.
BEZU FACHE (40s-50s) – The captain of the French Judicial Police. He is strong-willed and religious. He has great faith in the use of technology in his work, which can mislead him. His policing methods are a bit unorthodox, but he is good at heart.
SISTER SANDRINE/MARIE (60s+) – Sandrine is a nun and keeper of the Church of Saint-Sulpice. She offers shelter to Silas. Doubles as Marie, Sophie’s Grandmother, who secretly cares for the Rosslyn Chapel in Edinburgh.
VERNET/DOCENT (50s-60s) – Vernet is the Bank Manager of the Depository Bank, Rue Haxo. She is professional but suspicious of Sophie and Langdon. Member of the Priory of Sion. Doubles the role of Docent.
COLLET/CHURCH VOLUNTEER (early 30s) – Collet is an agent with the French Judicial Police. She assists Fache in the investigation. She commits numerous errors during the pursuit of Sophie and Langdon. Doubles the role of Church Volunteer.
