Auditions for OVER THE TAVERN (Student Roles) – August 2 & 3

Auditions for student roles in OVER THE TAVERN will be held along with auditions for CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY on Sunday, August 2 and Monday, August 3 at 6:30 PM at the Erie Playhouse Rehearsal Hall at 1158 East 12th Street. Students wishing to be considered for both productions should attend. Students auditioning for OVER THE TAVERN only may choose to attend the August 5 & 6 auditions instead. 

Actors are asked to arrive and to sign in within the first hour of the audition start time. All roles are available. The Erie Playhouse practices Color Conscious casting.  All ethnicities and newcomers are especially welcomed. Crew and other volunteers are also needed for this event. All roles, unless otherwise announced, are open. The Erie Playhouse encourages anyone who is interested to audition and is always eager to welcome new faces and fresh talent to its stage. No previous stage experience is required.  All roles are non-equity (non union) and are unpaid.  Perusal scripts are available  in the box office for 24 hrs. with a refundable $10 deposit. Questions? OVER THE TAVERN (STUDENT ROLES ONLY)

Age Range  – See Character Descriptions. Ages listed reflect the characters’ ages as indicated in the script, not necessarily the ages of the actors who will be cast. Individuals age 10 and up are welcome to audition.

• Audition Requirements: Please prepare a brief monologue no longer than 1 ½ minutes. There will also be cold readings from the script.

Synopsis: The Pazinski family has a lot going on in their cramped Buffalo apartment. When Rudy goes up against the ruler-wielding Sister Clarissa and announces that instead of being confirmed he‘d rather shop around for a more “fun” religion, all hell breaks loose.

Roles

RUDY: 12 years old. Very erudite for his age. He’s questioning why he is being forced into Catholicism, when he’s noticed other suitable religions don’t include getting his knuckles rapped by ruler-wielding Sister Clarissa. He’s clever, observant, analytic, thoughtful, caring and funny, but not in a smart-alecky way.

GEORGIE: 13 years old. His mental age, however, is three years old. Consistently good-natured, he communicates with gestures, grunts and an occasional real word. He enjoys his family, is delighted when he occasionally shocks them, and can be extremely stubborn at times.

EDDIE: 15 years old. Typical teenage brother, alternating between jerk and protector. He’s about at the stage where he thinks he knows it all, and discovers that maybe he doesn’t. He’s also becoming more critical about his father being nothing more than a provider.

ANNIE: 16 years old. A teenage girl stuck with three brothers, making her the “maternal” older sister. At the same time, she’s struggling with her self-image and coming-of-age issues.
