Journey to a Trauma Informed Life

Inaugural David & Judy Matthews Scholarship

“Give them love and they’ll give it back.”

– David Matthews

The Erie Playhouse is thrilled to announce that applications are now being accepted for the inaugural David & Judy Matthews Scholarship.

In memory of David Matthews, and in recognition of his many contributions to the Playhouse during his tenure as Managing Director from 1972-2006, and in honor of his wife Judy Matthews, a Playhouse legend in her own right, the Erie Playhouse has established the David & Judy Matthews Scholarship Fund to award to one graduating high school senior attending school to pursue a career in a theatre or performing arts-related field.

“One of David and Judy’s proudest achievements was the establishment and continued growth of the Youtheatre and the mentoring of young theatre artists,” said Richard Davis, Erie Playhouse Artistic Director. “The establishment of the David & Judy Matthews Scholarship allows their legacy of inspiration to continue for many years to come.”

To apply, eligible Erie County high school seniors graduating in 2024 should visit erieplayhouse.org and select David & Judy Matthews Scholarship Fund under Education to complete and submit all requirements before the April 15, 2024 deadline. The 2024 scholarship recipient will be announced by June 1, 2024.

Established in 2022, the David & Judy Matthews Scholarship Fund currently includes more than $25,000 in donations from 50+ donors. Scholarships will be awarded annually using interest from the fund. Individuals wishing to contribute to the Matthews Scholarship Fund should contact Zach Flock, Executive Director, for more information.

All details and eligibility requirements are available at erieplayhouse.org.
